Upgrade Integration Designer Eclipse platform to enable support for plugins like Git, Maven, Gradle, Spring...

I was considering creating PMR cause it's serious blocker for modern development.

We use AdvancedOnly deployment for running large BPEL solution with lots of Java code. IID Eclipse platform is now ancient Eclipse 3.6.3 (released 2011) and that means it does not allow to use modern development tools and workflows like Git, Maven, Gradle, Spring tools which is standard for looong time in Java development (Maven is best example).

We use several workarounds, ancient plugin versions, hacks and dark arts for using these tools somehow but I think it's time to upgrade IID platform to modern Eclipse 4.x.

    Hi Brian,

Yeah, that's great! I noticed immediately cause I know the newer version Eclipse look so I was very pleased ;) Unfortunately, we couldn't use the newer version right away cause we were experiencing a strange "No more handles" error (described in the past in JR52017 for older 8.x) so we couldn't use the embedded java snippet editor which effectively meant we couldn't use 21.0.3 at all.

I opened a support case (TS009505333) and after it was clear that it is probably some interference with another software on my computer I found out if was conflict with Stardock Fences (described in detail in TS009505333).

I was able to work around that problem so now we are enjoying the newer Eclipse version with Egit 5.13 ;)

Thanks for letting me know, looking forward for another eclipse update ;)

    Pavel

    Hi Pavel,

With IID 21.0.3 (Dec 2021) we are now based on eclipse 4.7.3. This should satisfy the requirement for later plug-in compatibility.

    Thank you,

    -Brian

We just upgraded to Integration Designer 20.0.0.1 and whoala it seems it is based on 4.4.2 now - I was able to install much more recent Git plugin, great! It's still old (2015, we have 4.17 stable now) but it's sooo much better than ancient 3.6 in 8.5.7. Now I'm looking forward to the future and I see small light at the end of the tunnel again :)
